There is no fixed limit. Very large files (hundreds of MB) depend on your device's memory and can be slow on phones.
Is it free?
Yes — free and unlimited, with no sign-up and no watermark.
About the formats
TAR
TAR bundles many files into one archive and is common on Linux and macOS. It is usually compressed as .tar.gz (.tgz), .tar.bz2 or .tar.xz — all of these open here.
